Intake

Can collect rain water and probably use ground water. Need to research which is safer.

For DIY purification I like the system of 4x55 gallon drums. The first to act as physical filters with progressively finer medium. The third uses charcoal as a filter. The fourth is just a reservoir.

I can add a reverse osmosis filter for where I want purer water. The waste water can be directed to the gardens where the additional minerals will be useful.

I can also use a UV filter with 270nm light (probably LED). A quartz tube allows the light to pass.

Progression

Clean Water

Used in sinks, showers, washing clothes.

Grey Water

Used for plants and toilets.

Black Water

Sent to septic tanks to let it break down and become safe, then to a leech garden where plants can extract the nutrients. These plants are not directly harvested but instead composted. Nitrogen fixing plants would be good.
