I like the design that uses dowels between the tracks and clasp to hold the sections together. I can make 2x8ft sections then cut them down so I end up with 2x5ft and 2x3ft. A 10ft section would be good for cutting 8ft sheets because it gives me a foot of overhang on either side. | |||

For Shop
Plywood Carrier
A handle to make carrying plywood sheets easier.
New Tool Inset
The insulation insets for my toolbox aren't working very well. I want to make a new set from plywood. Use velcro and magnets to hold things in place. Top layer should be thin, inside can be drilled out to reduce weight.
Solar Heater
I've got the glass from the old coffee table. Use pex tube.
Small pump with a small solar cell to run water through the tube.
Get a plastic trash can for the water and a bunch of insulation for it.
A second pump, box fan and copper coil can act as a radiator.
The idea is that in the winter the water can charge up thermal energy over a few days (if it's insulated enough to stay warm over night). Then when I need to use the shop, the heat is discharged rapidly with the radiator.
Sanding Block
The rubber one is a pain to get paper in and out. Build one with bolt clamps.
I like the ergonomic detail of this one.
Phone Stand
Clamp to hold my phone with stand to set it up or straps to put it on my chest.
Bar Compass
- Matias (Trammel): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqf9zixaErQ
- Ramsey (Beam): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZUHgfzuibk
My old compass broke, so this is a bit more pressing now.
I'd like to make:
- 7 bars (2x3", 5x6")
- 4 points (2 right, 2 left)
- 2 pencil (1 right, 1 left) (though I want to use the graphite I have)
- Connectors
- cutter?
Mark distances on the bar. I'd like to make the points off center so I can pair up two and get the points very close together.
For storage, the bars will store in the top of the box and other pieces will store in the bottom, including extra lead.
Saw Track
A for the circular saw. Simplest version just uses thin plywood as the track and a milled 2x4 for the guide. Some sandpaper on the bottom will hold it in place.
I like the design that uses dowels between the tracks and clasp to hold the sections together. I can make 2x8ft sections then cut them down so I end up with 2x5ft and 2x3ft. A 10ft section would be good for cutting 8ft sheets because it gives me a foot of overhang on either side.
I like the layout of using thin mdf as the track supported on the non cutting side by a thicker piece of wood. I also like the technique of adding a dovetail key so that the saw locks into the track.
To mimic a true tracksaw, there should be a way to loosen the plunge mechanism and add a depthstop.
This should be sized to fit both circular saws.
Multipurpose Bell Box
Can't find the original video. The box has a different dimension in each axis, something like 1' x 1.5' x 2'. It has simple handles cut into the sides.
The idea is that you can stand on it to reach different heights. And of course you can carry thing.
Other features
- Ruler on top on two sides for measuring, also possibly angle marks like a speed square
- Add a string cutter with a replaceable blade
Tape Rack
With integrated hacksaw blade for cutting.
- Blue tape
- Duck tape
Rotary Magnet

Kits
These are things that need a box tailored to hold them.
Sanding Box
Get a simple rabbet box setup to hold sanding supplies. The sanding belts will go on the sander pallet, so those are out. I'm not sure I should do one box for hand and orbital sanding or two separate boxes. I'm leaning to one because I almost always do them together.
- Sandpaper
- hand sanding block
- sand paper cutter (see John Hienz)
Other Box
- orbital pads
- orbital sander
Sharpening Box
Sharpening stones, get another strop. Add a honing guide.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31sVvygiIx0
Pocket Hole Box
Compartment storage for screws
The jig should be attached to the lid so that I can flip the lid upside down or remove it and clamp it to a work surface.
Rotary Tool
Before I do this, I may want to purchase a better rotary tool. If I do, I'd rig the box with storage for both.
I resist using the rotary tool because it's a pain to get out and put away. Storage should make it easy to get the tool out and put it away. Should hold lots of bits.
Technical
- Spline box
- Dovetail
- Dowel box
- Half blind lock joint
