I'd like to build a driver around the AtTiny2313 or an AtMega8. Use 4 pins for the driver out, and 1 pin out to indicate if the motor is stopped. One input pin for direction and one for start/stop. The rest will be used for speed and steps. The idea is that another controller can give the driver and order like "take 120 steps over 3 seconds".

I should also do this at least once with a real stepper driver.

This document tracks a number of small exercises to prototype. The goal is not a final product but skill building.

Circuit Design

I've mostly hit all the goals here. The first circuit didn't turn out correctly because it ended up reversed. But I think I've got the basics.

Needs work

  • Import a library of parts
  • Figure out a better way to do board headers

Motors

  1. Manually drive a stepper motor
  2. Wire up H Bridge to linear actuator (manual control)

Micro controllers

  • Use the AVR chip from an Arduino (off the board)
  • Use a PL2303HX chip with AVR
  • Use an SPI LCD with AVR

After motor

  • Drive Stepper
  • Drive DC with rotary encoder
  • Driver Servo motor
