=Setup
I continued to use the square foot garden on the ground but I also set up 32 buckets on the roof with a drip irrigation system. This proved fairly productive. I had the timer set to 10 minutes, 4 times a day. I think changing it to longer every few days would be better for the plants, help them develop stronger roots.
Seeds
- Roma Tomatoes 3.25
- Onion sets 12.95
- Garlic 8.95
- soybeans 4.95
- rutabaga 3.95
- leaf lettuce 3.25
- onion seeds 2.95
Total: 40.25
Try leaving a few onions in the ground at the end of the season, supposedly they multiply like garlic and the bulbs can be separated and planted the next spring.
I never ended up planting rutabaga, which is sad. Everything else did OK. I did get a late start on the tomatoes.
Yeild
- Roma Tomatoes
- 1/4 bushel
- Garlic
- Most of the cloves grew, but they were small
- Soybeans
- Only planted about 10 of these guys and got about 7 soup bowls full - not bad.
- Onioins
- Mixed, a lot of them died out (weeds I think) and the ones that made it didn't get as big as I had hoped.
Plan
After I've pulled everything up (soon) I want to add 3 more gardens on the ground. I don't need the back drop (including the one I have).
