The subfloor will contain the insulation. I think this will be easiest to build in the garage then assemble in the basement. Each section is the size of a sheet of OSB, except for the area around the edges. Each section has a frame running around the edges and one down the center for support. After building the first one, test it for strength before installing. If I need to add more support, that should be easy.

The surface will be thin plywood cut in 6" strips. After cutting, I'll go back over the board and cut a slight chamfer to create a small gap between the boards. The strips can be sanded in the garage. I'll stain and seal them in the basement. I'll need to do a few tests. My plan is a darker stain and oil base poly seal.

Project plan for the basement

  1. X Clean basement out
  2. X Tear everything out
  3. X Schedule mold removal & electrical
  4. Hang drywall
  5. Tape drywall
  6. Build bar and cabinets
  7. paint drywall
  8. install floors
  9. install baseboard and molding

I also think I want to put in the floor before the drywall so it can go under it a little. But I should put in and seal the bottom piece first.

Build

  1. Glue up insulation
  2. Install furring based on where panels will go - needs padding
  3. Rewire lighting
  4. Install floors
  5. install gantry base
  6. install ceiling
  7. Install hardboard
  8. Install MDF battens
  9. Install bead work
  10. Caulk / fill
  11. Prime
  12. Paint

Reference

Lights

I want to move the lights from the ceiling to wall sconces. To run this behind the furring requires that I use mc cabling.

Bar/Cabinets

I'll need to get exact measurements, but I want two taller cabinets at each end, a working space in the middle with shallow shelves. An open space underneath for a mini-fridge. The left-hand cabinet will hide the ugly pipe (but leave it accessible) and the right hand cabinet will hold the electronics as well as having a space for a laundry basket under the chute.

Cashway for lumber

It's 2' deep, 7' tall, but I'll need to go a bit lower for the vent. A little less than 2' is fine for the insides, I'll lose some to the back and face, so I can get two out of a sheet.

TV

Not much, but I'd like to repaint the chimney, put up shelves for the speakers and put up something to hold the cabling.

It may be worth putting up a facade of brick or stone.

Floor

First, put down a moisture barrier. Leave a bit around the edges.

The subfloor will contain the insulation. I think this will be easiest to build in the garage then assemble in the basement. After building the first one, test it for strength before installing. If I need to add more support, that should be easy.
