The best process I've come up with is to think in terms of lines. A line is a set of one to four belts with ?assemblers? between them. Lines can also be paired so that one input belt supplies two separate lines.
For Red/Green science, 6 green science assemblers, 5 red science assemblers, and one each for yellow inserter, transport belt and iron gear. That will need 18 stone furnaces processing iron, and 8 processing copper. That will supply 14 labs.

Items

  • I: Iron Plates
  • C: Copper Plates
  • G: Gears
  • W: Wires
  • E: Electronic Circuit
  • RS: Red Science (Science 1)
  • GS: Green Science (Science 2)
  • BS: Blue Science (Science 3)
  • AC: Advanced Circuit
  • TB: Transport Belt
  • S: Steel plate
  • YI: Inserter (yellow)

Recipes

  • I → G
  • C → W
  • W + I → E
  • I + G → TB
  • E + W → AC
  • PI + E → GI
  • BI + E → PI
  • YI + E + I → BI
  • G + E + I → YI
  • G + E + I → R
  • G + C → RS
  • TB + E → GS
  • AC + S + R + GI → BS

Advanced

Smart Inserter
Will only move certain types of items. User can define up to 5. If any of the slots are left blank it will move anything. I think it goes faster than the fast inserter.
Filter Inserter
Will only move certain types of items. User can define up to 5. If all the slots are left blank it will move anything. I think it goes the same speed asthe fast inserter.

Process

For Red/Green science, 6 green science assemblers, 5 red science assemblers, and one each for yellow inserter, transport belt and iron gear. That will need 18 stone furnaces processing iron, and 8 processing copper. That will supply 14 labs.
