Revision as of 22:04, 21 July 2018
A possible pre-cursor to my [Vulcan Open Lab] idea.
Now that I've got just a little experience, I'm finding that a collection of tools is nice, but you can really get a lot done with a table saw and drill press. My table saw is rated at 15amps, which is just over 2HP. I can get a router at that power. I think a router would serve well as a general purpose power house.
Base Tools
- Router
- Straight bit
- Edge (bearing) bit
- Chamfer bit
- Plunge bit
- Bit driver and set
- Digital Calipers
- Dial gauge (?)
- Dremel kit
Can we make our own chisels?
Drill Press
Purchase
- drill bits
- drill chuck and spindle assembly
- thrust bearing
- switch
- balance spring (coil?)
The base will be particle board filled with concrete. The column will be a pvc pipe filled with concrete (possibly with rope compression). The table will be particle board. I think it's best to just top it with thick epoxy, but aluminum may also make sense.
Need to choose a spindle assembly and a chuck to match.
