Flight Simulator
Dad really likes his flight simulator. FlightGear looks really good.
Search term is "motion flight simulator". There is a reasonable DIY community.

Computer
Needs to be a decent rig, but it could be fairly small, built right into the pod. I would like to do 3 monitors out so that there can be a main window and two side windows.
Speakers - decent 5.1 speakers will do a lot for this project.

Pod
It would need to fit in the basement. Basic 2 axis rotation. Need to pull the force vector from the game (or calculate it) and rotate the user so that they are facing that direction.
