I want to create a set of tutorials documenting my work with AWS and eventually turn them into a presentation for conferences.

AWS Basics

Free tier. You can run through most of these tutorials for free. And you can run a decent web server for a year for free. Throw in $10 for a domain and you're set.

Walk through signing in, creating a key pair, and launching an instance.

Setting up a basic LAMP server

Update and upgrade. Using tasksel on Ubuntu. Install webmin, phpMyAdmin and wordpress.

How to connect from Linux over SSH.

How to connect with putty. Show saving a connection and setting different fonts so it's not ugly.

AMI

Creating an AMI and launching a new instance from it.

Volumes

Creating a new volume and moving MySql to it.

Volumes Advanced

Detaching and reattaching the MySql volume. Detaching the volume and moving it to another machine.

Bonus: Minecraft

Basic Server

Getting the server running. Installing an update manually.

Advanced Server

Adding a bash script. Controlling the server from a micro instance (or a non EC2 computer).
