Need to merge with Basement

Steps

  • Vacuum ceiling
  • Finish furring
  • Rewire lights
  • Subfloor
  • Floor
  • Ceiling
  • Board and Batten walls
  • Move In
    • exercise
    • tv area
    • vinting
    • keyboard
  • Ultimate Workstation V2
  • Electronics Bench / Workbench
  • Cabinets
  • Storage

Areas/Requirements

  • Exercise
  • Desk (electronics/office)
  • Computer (sitting/walking)
  • tv area
  • storage
  • bookshelf
  • Cabinets/bar
  • vinting
  • electric keyboard

The space should be usable for social gatherings. Especially game night.

Exercise

The designated area needs to be just large enough to hold the equipment in storage. Need to test this by folding up the rowing machine and bench. Get dimensions.

I need a storage solution for the plates. I should think about how to make setup faster.

While it's really more closely associated with my computer, the walking treadmill will be setup here as well. I should have some sort of stand that Lauren can use but also allow me to bring my computer there.

Desk

This will be a many-in-one. The desk itself will be built as a hand tool work bench. The spot where it's parked against the wall will have storage for electronics. I can use it as either an electronics bench or small wood project bench in place. By pulling it more to the center of the room I can do larger wood projects.

See Electronics Bench.

This is primarily for electronics, but I also want to be able to do paper work here.

White board

Near desk, large ferromagnetic whiteboard. I'll have thin polycarb sheets with magnets that can be moved around for layering.

Computer Desk

I'm going to do at least one more semi-temporary version. Though I'm starting to get close.

The next one will be built around what ever recliner I get.

The main frame will form a large triangle with a foot. With a recliner I should be able to add a cross bar at the back.

The monitor situation is working pretty well. I will reuse the adjustable arms I bought. The one thing that does not work is the adjustable height. The monitors should use bearings to ride on the frame and the threaded rod should only support it vertically.

The desk needs to be a bit bigger and I'd like more adjustability, though it doesn't need to be easy to adjust the height and angle.

I end up putting stuff on top of my computer all the time, so more storage might be nice.

TV Area

TV will go back up. 2 chairs and a small table. Since this will be kind of in the middle of the room, I want to be able to move them out of the way easily. This can open up room for exercise. I can put my old camera up on the TV and use that for video calls.

Put up stone on the face of the fireplace. I think I will continue the board and batten on the right side. The left side will eventually be covered by the bar. I would like to add a mantel like this

Storage

  • Closet area, may make more sense to rotate this as depth isn't an issue
  • knex/lego: I'd like better division for knex

Office supplies

  • envelopes/stamps/checkbooks
  • writing: one type of pen, one bulk pencil, eraser, sharpie, white out
  • notebooks
  • binders
  • paper
    • LL lined
    • LL graph
    • LL half page
    • note cards
    • post its
  • 3 hole punch
  • stapler/staples
  • batteries

I like the sterlite bins I've been using, I'd like to make a rack to hold these.

I want a temperature controlled cabinet for wine. Should hold 2 or 3 batches.

Bookshelf

12x90

I should reoranize this in my office. It can be used for some storage.

Design

I like the board and batten walls.

Directed lighting seems to matter.

It can be delayed, but putting up fake stone on the fireplace would be really nice.

On one wall I can put up the video game manuals, possibly get more. I'd also like to get some blueprints to put up. MeloPrints has some good ones, so does Turnip Designs.

One interesting way to go would be very minimalist formulas:

  • Eulers Formula: ei*π + 1 = 0
  • Ohms Law: v=ri; p=vi
  • Black and white mandlebrot with the equation

Battens

  • 7' x 4" x (4+2+2+2)
  • 7'x 1' x 2
  • 7'x 6" x 4
  • I) 3 x (4') x 44+26
I
3 for trim and chair rail

Lighting

I want to remove the ceiling lighting and instead add a wall sconce to every other panel. This is partially where the posters come in, they will be mostly white and reflect light back into the room.

I think the design is going be simple curved wood with thin polycarbonate inside. I'll sand the poly to make it translucent.

Ceiling

Should be bright and reflective to avoid feeling cramped.

Bar

Rather than locking the bar, it might make more sense to install a door and lock that. I'm going to have a bunch of stuff in here I won't want Fletcher getting into in a few years.

Gym Storage/Work Table

A cabinet designed to hold the exercise equipment with a shelf/table on the front.

V1

I think it's going to be a while until the basement is finished, so doing this soon as a prototype will be good. I need to layout the equipment. And I want to plan for one more set of dumbbells.

I'm not sure how to access the equipment. The simple solution is a door. But that puts a lot of strain on the hinges.

Displays

More of someday, nice to have. But I love displays. It would be nice to incorporate a lot of displays. In fact, if all of the light was coming from displays, that would be great.

Simple

  • Time / Date
  • Weather
  • BTC
  • SP500
  • Temperature
  • Tasks

I can also get LCD monitors pretty cheap and hook them up to single board computers:

  • Any of the above
  • Email
  • Pictures

It could also be nice to have a sort of web API for setting things:

  • Timers and alarms
  • Messaging (Lauren could send a message)
