Compos

Half-baked idea.

An operating system (CompOS, compos meaning either mentally sound or a mixture).

Like MenuetOS, the core would be written in assembly. Unlike, well, anything else, the approach would be quite different. CompOS would be garbage collected. It would rely heavily on linked libraries, the goal being incredibly small binaries. Because the OS does garbage collection, CompOS could not run arbitrary binaries (or maybe we could do something like Unsafe from Go). It would have two languages custom built for it. One would be a low C/Go like systems language Lope. The other would be a high-level language, Hype. Hype would also serve as the shell environment.

The shell would move away from stdIn, stdOut, stdErr, relying more heavily on channels and allowing data to passed (without serialization).
