Installing this was a real pain.

After several failed attempts installing the mediawiki-extensions-math Ubuntu package worked.

  1. Install mediawiki-extensions-math (sudo apt-get install mediawiki-extensions-math)
  2. Download the extension and install it in the extensions directory
  3. Install ocaml and make. Run make in the Math/math directory
  4. Add the include to LocalSettings.php
