Mycelium Insulation

I saw this a while ago and it may be interesting to pursue.

I'm guessing the best substrate is going to be sawdust along with some nutrients (maybe bran). A big question is going to be the insulative properties. I'll need a test rig that can measure insulation.

I can start by making small test bricks. Make the substrate and heat it to sterilize. Keep it covered and let it cool. Inoculate with spores. Once the colony matures heat to sterilize again, then bake at a low temperature to dry the material out.

I need to run some tests trying out different species and substrate recipes to see which produces the best insulation.

One of the manufactures takes the organic mass when it is done growing and compresses and heats it increase density and create a final shape. Check the insulation properties of compressed and non-compressed variations.
