Personal Organization Designer

Over the last ten years I've looked at a lot of personal organization systems and designed a few of my own. Over this time, my needs have changed and systems that once worked well, now don't work at all.

I would like to design a meta system where someone can classify their life and the types of problems that a system that will work for them must over come. I pictures a series of form that gather more and more specific data and at the end show a system and recommend tools that will work well with that system. I should note carefully here - this is not a personal organization system or tool. It's meant to be use once (or once in a while).

Considerations

  • How many tasks do you have (10's, 100's, 1,000's)
  • How long would it take to finish everything that is on your list right now (days, weeks, months, years)
  • Do you have trouble focusing on a specific task or figuring out what to work on next?
  • Do you often forget to do tasks or only remember them after their deadline?
  • How many domains do you have to manage (school, work, family, charities) (1, 2, 3-5, 5-10, >10)
  • Contexts
  • Do you need to tightly couple your system with other (co-worker, spouse) or will this system be yours alone and you can rely on message passing?
  • How complex is your calendar (a few things a day with little over lap, several things a day with some overlaps, several things a day with many over laps, I always have to choose between at least 3 places I should be)
