Go Bipolar over Unipolar. Unipolar is a little easier to work with, but it's weaker and more expensive.
NEMA
NEMA refers to the size of the housing. NEMA 17 are common, they are 1.7x1.7". They run about $9 a piece at 59Ncm, 12V.
